DIY Creative Jack-O’-Lantern

Halloween is fast and approaching, and you probably already have lots of ideas on how to make your house or apartment send chills up the spine of your trick or treat visitors. Here’s one craftier idea for your collection.

We’ll take a look at making an LED Jack-O’-Lantern. All you’ll need is a pumpkin, a knife, a spoon, E27 lamp lead and an LED bulb. Alternatively, you can also get a specialized set of pumpkin carving tools to set your creative spirit free. Once you have all the equipment and your pumpkin ready, it’s time to get started.

1.      Take the pumpkin and your carving knife and cut out the top of the pumpkin, as you would normally do when making a Halloween pumpkin lantern. Scope out the pulp.

2.      The next step is all up to you. Carve out the eyes and mouth of your Jack’O lantern. Don’t be afraid to unleash your imagination and steer a bit away from tradition. Your lantern can be anything you want. For inspiration check online and find a cool template to use, there are plenty to choose from.

Tip: if this if your first pumpkin carving, we suggest your use a pencil or pen first to draw a face on your pumpkin so that you have some guidelines to follow when using a knife.

3.      There you go! You already have yourself a good looking pumpkin lantern. But don’t stop just yet! We still have a few cool tech tweaks in mind.

4.      Now, cut a whole at the bottom of the pumpkin. You can do this making a smaller hole – just enough to get a cable through to use cable powered lamp, then disconnect the plug from your lamp lead and thread it through. You will then have to reattach the cable to the plug. Make sure you rewire it correctly.

5.      If you want to go for even more spooky impact, use an app-controlled smart LED bulb. You can also try an LED bulb that doubles as a speaker. Have your Jack-O’-Lantern change color and laugh creepily when visitors are approaching.

6.      Place the pumpkin by the door, on the window, at the top of s staircase, in the backyard – or, alternatively, look for a well-hidden place where gullible visitors to your Halloween mansion would least expect it.

Control the LED bulb with a smartphone app, get some more Halloween gadgets and make sure your house is the spookiest and the most entertaining this October!
